Sportcal Expands Into Asia

Sports market intelligence provider Sportcal is to open a fourth office - its first in Asia - in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong office is in addition to Sportcal’s existing headquarters in London and regional offices in Glasgow, Scotland and Lausanne, Switzerland.

The move represents the latest step in Sportcal’s continuing growth plan since it announced in December last year that Progressive Ventures, part of the Progressive Media Group of companies, has become a shareholder and strategic partner in Sportcal.

Opening an office in Hong Kong continues the expansion of Sportcal into new markets and regions and builds on an extensive key client base already developed in Asia that includes companies like: Astro; Badminton World Federation; Bangkok Broadcasting and TV; CCTV; Dentsu; BCCI; Fox International Channels Asia; Hakuhodo; ICC; Japan Sports Council; Korean Broadcasting System; Malaysian Convention and Exhibition Bureau; NBA; Samsung Electronics; Shanghai Media Group; and Singtel.

With a growing number of major events being awarded to Asia, including the winter Olympic Games in 2018 (Korea) and the summer Olympic Games in 2020 (Japan), Sportcal is seeing a growing demand for data and intelligence in the Asian market.

The newly-announced withdrawal of Oslo, the last European city in the race to host the 2022 winter Olympics, means that the event will now be definitely awarded to an Asian city: Almaty in Kazakhstan or Beijing in China. The next three editions of the Olympics will therefore be held in Asia.

The new Hong Kong office will support Sportcal’s expanding client base in Asia and a growing demand for information and news.
